Is gluten the devil part 2…

Is gluten the devil part 2…
Is gluten for everyone?

As explained in part 1, gluten is a protein composite found in wheat and when consumed on a regular basis this composite may have some adverse health effects such as bloating, inflammation and may disrupted your hormonal balance. Not everyone should completely avoid gluten, although there is evidence that gluten is a difficult protein for all humans to digest and they might be better avoiding it. If you are someone who needs an extremely large amount of carbohydrates per day and doesn’t seem to have any negative effects from gluten then you might be fine including pasta or bread into your diet every now and again.

Humans have never had adequate stomach enzymes necessary to break gluten down to allow for proper digestion, a problem that has been made much worse by the genetically engineered dwarf wheat over the past century. If you are out of shape and don’t need to consume a vast amount of calories per day then we would advice avoiding all wheat products. Yes, these products do provide essential fibre, iron and B vitamins but they can be easily replaced by others foods, such as whole grain rice and leafy vegetables that don’t cause bloating and fatigue.

Should I be consuming gluten free products such as gluten free bread, pasta or biscuits? The simple answer is no. Gluten free replacement foods are becoming an increasing food trend. Unfortunately these products are not always healthy. For example, in bread, gluten helps retain its shape and softness as it cooks. Without gluten, manufactures often use nasty additives to give the bread a similar texture. Extra sugar and fat are often also added to make the product tastier. Instead of these gluten free replacement products, just stick to whole food, such as leafy vegetables, potatoes, rice or quinoa.

Eliminating gluten from your diet will mean that there will be some foods you will have to avoid such as bread, pasta, couscous, some cakes, sauces and other wheat products. Anyone who has ever tried a restricted diet, whether it be paleo, vegetarian or low-carb knows that eliminating foods can cause some social disruption, but it comes down to the question, are you willing to eat something that will compromise your body composition, energy levels and health?

As already mentioned we am not completely against food containing gluten but there is definitely a time and place were it is beneficial to reducing this composite from a person’s diet.
